Omeprazole side effects can happen to just about anybody who uses Omeprazole capsules. Omeprazole is a medicine that is often used to address problems with peptic ulcer disease and dyspepsia. Unfortunately, just like any other drug, Omeprazole pills do have its side effects which may occur differently to each person – and at different levels. It can be bought over the counter without any required prescription from the doctor, but it is heavily recommended that consultation with a doctor before any purchasing and drinking the medication is done.

The Omeprazole side effects can be classified into different levels. There are common effects, and then there are the rare ones, plus there are some Omeprazole side effects that are deemed as allergic reactions to the drug. Here are some of the common Omeprazole side effects that which may occur:

  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Sleep deprivation

These are just a few of the common symptoms that are characterized as the common Omeprazole side effects. There are less common effects as well as allergic reactions and drug interactions. For allergic reactions, the usual development of hives or rashes occur, [plus some possible mouth or face swelling, difficulty in breathing, and additional swelling of the throat.

Studies also show that Omeprazole capsules can interfere with a number of drugs that include warfarin, ketoconazole, saquinavir, diazepam, nelfinavir, digoxin, atazanavir, and phenytoin. Less common effects of the Omeprazole 20 mg include the following:

  • Vomiting
  • Cramping of the leg
  • Nervousness
  • Retention of water
  • Muscle pains
  • Weakness

Much like Esomeprazole which also deals with GERD and peptic ulcer, Omeprazole may have some long term side effects that can be cause the patient to suffer from depression. Although none of the side effects are exactly deadly, these are not exactly mild as well. This is why some people try out more natural methods for curing peptic ulcers such as a proper diet and health habits. If the patient suffers from acid reflux and other gastric diseases, then there are other ways that do not require medication for treatment.

The side effects of Omeprazole or any medicine that has the same ingredients in Omeprazole may affect a patient differently, and it may come to a point where it can be deadly for a certain person. However, as a patient, it may be important to ask if the side effects are worth it, or going for more natural methods that have lesser side effects are better.
